Capture One has released its latest software iteration, version 16.7, bringing a suite of advanced capabilities and expanded device compatibility to photographers and editors. This update, following a recent brand refresh, focuses on refining the user experience through innovative tools and seamless integration with a wider range of photographic equipment. With seven core new features, alongside comprehensive Canon RF lens profiles and improved tethering for Fujifilm, the platform continues to solidify its position as a leading choice for professional image workflow.
Among the standout new features in Capture One 16.7 is the introduction of 'Combine Masks', offering unprecedented flexibility in creating intricate selections. This functionality empowers users to merge, subtract, and intersect various masks, consolidating them into a single, manageable layer. Such an approach significantly streamlines the editing process for complex image areas, allowing for more precise adjustments without cluttering the layer panel.
The Retouch Tool Tab has undergone a substantial overhaul, now segmented into dedicated tools for specific facial enhancements. These include the Retouch Selector, Retouch Face Skin, Retouch Eyes, and Retouch Teeth. Each tool is equipped with specialized detection algorithms and options tailored to its respective area. For instance, the Retouch Eyes tool now features iris and sclera selectors, while the Retouch Teeth tool provides precise sliders for brightness and desaturation, enabling meticulous adjustments. Furthermore, a new 'Include Neck Area' toggle has been integrated into the Blemish Removal and Even Skin tools, offering more comprehensive skin retouching capabilities.
Photographers will also appreciate the new built-in function for creating contact sheets. This feature automatically sizes images to fit chosen layouts and pages, facilitating easy export as JPEG or PDF files. The update also enhances 'People Masking' with the ability to automatically detect and mask clothing worn by subjects, further simplifying selective adjustments. Additionally, HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) readouts are now available, providing real-time color information for precise color grading.
Beyond these powerful editing tools, Capture One 16.7 broadens its compatibility by introducing day-zero support for the Fujifilm X-T30 III, Leica M EV1 (including wired tethering and Live View), and the Canon EOS C50 (supporting wired and wireless tethering, Live View, and ReTether). The update also extends support to the OM-System OM5 II, Leica D-Lux 8 100 YEARS OF LEICA Edition, and enables iPhone 16 and 17 tethering via the Capture One mobile application. This wide-ranging camera support ensures that users of the latest equipment can seamlessly integrate their devices into their Capture One workflow.
Finally, 'Live for Studio' has received three key enhancements aimed at fostering a more fluid collaborative environment. These improvements include support for keyboard shortcuts, the ability for connected devices to trigger 'Force to Follow' mode from the desktop, and a new function allowing connected iPads to display selected images from a Mac. It is important to note that version 16.7 of Capture One is not compatible with previous iterations of Live for Studio, necessitating an update for collaborative work.
