DJI has introduced the Osmo Action 6, a significant advancement in action camera technology. This new model is distinguished by its pioneering variable aperture system and a distinctive square image sensor, promising superior image and video capture capabilities. The camera's design and features are poised to elevate the user experience for adventure enthusiasts and content creators alike, offering unparalleled flexibility and quality in various demanding environments.
The standout innovation in the Osmo Action 6 is its variable f/2-4 aperture. This is a first for action cameras, allowing for exceptional performance in low-light conditions. Paired with a newly developed square Type 1/1.1 image sensor, the device captures stunning visuals. This larger sensor, with its 2.4 μm pixels, contributes to a dynamic range of up to 13.5 stops, ensuring rich detail and color accuracy.
Beyond its optical enhancements, the Osmo Action 6 introduces several practical features. The f/2 maximum aperture not only boosts low-light sensitivity but also enables a shallower depth of field, especially when combined with the optional Macro Lens accessory. This accessory significantly reduces the minimum focusing distance, making it perfect for detailed close-up shots of diverse subjects. Another optional add-on, the FOV Boost Lens, expands the field of view to an immersive 182 degrees, ideal for capturing expansive point-of-view action sequences.
Video recording capabilities are robust, with support for 4Kp120 video in a 4:3 aspect ratio. The inclusion of DJI's 10-bit D-Log M color system allows for extensive post-production color grading. A dedicated SuperNight mode optimizes performance for nighttime shooting, delivering impressive results at 4Kp60. The unique square sensor also unlocks a new 4K Custom mode, giving users the freedom to crop footage after recording, ensuring optimal framing for various platforms, including vertical video formats popular on social media.
For capturing dynamic movements, the Osmo Action 6 offers advanced stabilization technologies, including RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady. These systems work in tandem to deliver smooth, stable footage even during intense activities. The camera also features 2x lossless 4K zoom, six built-in film tones, and an intelligent AI-powered autofocus system that adeptly tracks and centers subjects.
Durability is a core aspect of the Osmo Action 6. With an IP68 waterproof rating, it can be submerged to depths of 60 meters with an optional dive case, making it suitable for underwater adventures. A built-in water pressure gauge provides essential dive data. Furthermore, its cold-resistant design ensures reliable operation in temperatures as low as -20° C, catering to extreme sports enthusiasts. The camera boasts a four-hour battery life and comes with 50GB of internal storage, complemented by a microSD card slot for expanded capacity.
Connectivity is seamless with DJI's ecosystem. The Osmo Action 6 is compatible with DJI's wireless microphones, such as the Mic 2, Mic 3, and Mic Mini. It also features a three-microphone array, allowing for simultaneous audio capture from multiple sources, enhancing the overall production quality of recorded content.
The DJI Osmo Action 6 is designed to push the boundaries of what's possible with action cameras, providing professionals and enthusiasts with a versatile, high-performance tool for documenting their most thrilling moments. The combination of its innovative sensor, adaptable aperture, and rugged build establishes a new standard for adventure cinematography.
