Novachips, a prominent memory solutions provider based in South Korea, has recently launched a pair of innovative CFexpress Type B memory cards. Notably, one of these offerings marks a significant milestone as the first 4TB capacity card to achieve VPG 800 certification, setting a new benchmark in high-performance storage for creative professionals.
The newly introduced Novachips Extreme CX4B and Express CX4B series are meticulously engineered to cater to the escalating demands of professional photographers and videographers. These cards are specifically designed to deliver consistent and reliable sustained write performance, crucial for managing high-bitrate recordings and accommodating lengthy production workflows. Both series have successfully secured the coveted VPG 800 certification, a standard that remains relatively uncommon in the industry.
The Extreme series, available in 600GB and 1TB capacities, incorporates SLC mode flash memory and an advanced internal over-provisioning technique. This sophisticated architecture ensures stable speeds, even when the cards are subjected to intensive usage. Furthermore, these cards are VPG 400 verified, guaranteeing a minimum sustained write speed of 400MB/s, even as their capacity approaches its limit. This capability is particularly relevant given the nuances of CFexpress 4.0, which, while backward compatible with 2.0, operates with specific performance considerations.
Industry insights indicate that while CFexpress 4.0 is backward compatible, its full potential is realized only with newer camera hardware. Novachips has proactively addressed this by ensuring its cards maintain maximum performance even with CFexpress 2.0 compatibility, offering a future-proof solution for users. This commitment to robust backward compatibility ensures that the cards deliver optimal performance with current equipment while being ready for future technological advancements.
The Express series pushes the boundaries further, exclusively offering 2TB and 4TB capacities. These cards are finely tuned for VPG 800 performance, although they do not explicitly promise VPG 400 backward compatibility. Before this announcement, the highest capacity available with VPG 800 verification was 1TB, offered by competitors such as Exascend, Biwin, and Chipfancier. Novachips has now dramatically expanded these options, effectively doubling and then redoubling the available high-capacity VPG 800 choices.
SJ Yoo, Product Manager at Novachips, emphasized that CFexpress 4.0 signifies a pivotal advancement in professional media technology. He stated that with this launch, Novachips is providing CFA-certified VPG 800 performance across a diverse range of capacities and memory architectures. This strategic move aims to instill confidence in creators, assuring them that their storage solutions will consistently perform under the rigorous conditions of real-world production environments. Details regarding pricing and availability will vary by region and will be disclosed by the company.
