Impact on West Alabama

The results of this year's food drive were officially announced at a celebration held at the West Alabama Food Bank on Friday morning. This collaborative effort between the University of Alabama and Auburn University saw both schools come together to raise over 1.4 million pounds of food. According to Feeding America, one in six people in Alabama, including one in four children, battle with food insecurity. The food raised by the University of Alabama students will play a crucial role in addressing this pressing issue and helping those in need.

President Kennedi Preston expressed her pride in the hard work of the executive team, directors, and staff. "It has been a joy to see the Tuscaloosa community come together to support such a worthy cause. Our students' dedication and generosity are truly inspiring," she said.

Auburn's Contribution

During the friendly competition that ran from Oct. 4 to Nov. 21, Auburn's Beat Bama food drive also made a significant impact, raising 980,928 pounds of food. This joint effort between the two universities showcases the power of unity in the face of a common challenge – feeding the hungry.

All the food and monetary donations collected during the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive will directly benefit the West Alabama Food Bank. This vital organization serves nine counties in West Alabama, providing essential support to 93 agencies and ensuring that children receive secret meals and seniors get supplemental boxes.
